FROM PEOPLE WHO’VE STAYED
Nico SirValdivia · Frequent guest · @nitanaguja
Every weekend I can, I escape to Tormenta. I use a module as a studio, to stay and work on the study and creative process of weaving.

Javiera ZapataNiebla · @cielomicelio_
From the moment we got off the bus and were picked up, it took us 15 minutes to reach the space. The camping areas were incredible: good facilities and an even better sea view.

I’m Felipe, a member of the TORMENTA collective. I’m in charge of the design and construction of the space. I’m the one who will welcome you and take care of your requests when you arrive. In the meantime, the Espacio Tormenta team will answer all your questions on WhatsApp. See you soon!

IN COLLABORATION WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Pedro ArayaPastry chef and baker
At dinner time, order a pizza delivered straight to your tent or your module. Our neighbor makes it happen.

Helio QuinanAt sea for generations
If you’re coming to the coast, stop by the fishing cove: traditional food, handcrafted boats and a landscape that leaves no one indifferent.

At breakfast or any time of day, Tormenta’s bread is pan amasado, traditional Chilean kneaded bread, straight from our neighbor’s ovens.
A COLLECTIVE PROJECT
TORMENTA is a nonprofit educational project. Stays fund the care of the space and the infrastructure that makes learning, culture, and gatherings possible.
Support us with a donation ↗Infrastructure for workshops, research, conversations, and educational content that can travel beyond this place.
We are committed to a safe-space policy for everyone who stays, visits or organises activities. Machismo, racism, sexism or any form of violence will not be tolerated.
We are building our project through collaboration and reciprocity with our neighbors.
WHO WE ARE
We are a collective of people with diverse backgrounds. We have experience managing complex situations. Some of us have actively helped run social and cultural centers with an ecological, anti-capitalist and anti-patriarchal orientation. We know how difficult it is to sustain educational spaces and keep them going over time.
We also come from audiovisual production and journalism. In this project, we want recording and digital distribution of educational content to be a fundamental part of the space.
To bring diverse perspectives and greater transparency to our educational project, we meet every three months with what we call “the council table”: seven people from fields including law, biology, social work and education. The aim is to share progress, dilemmas and decisions, and to receive suggestions and constructive criticism. Its role is advisory, with no operational responsibilities or binding decisions.
Check real-time availability, calculate your contribution and send us your request on WhatsApp. You can also sign up for our activities there.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU COME
By car, TORMENTA is about 38 minutes from Valdivia (see the map above), and we have 7 parking spaces. By public transport, buses leave Valdivia every hour and take you as far as Curiñanco; you will then need private transport for the final stretch to TORMENTA (10 minutes). We will offer coordinated alternatives to help you get here, but please tell us what you need in advance and be prepared to work around our availability.
With an advance contribution, breakfast every day, with two options: vegan (coffee or tea, wholegrain oats with mixed fruit and syrup) or vegetarian (coffee or tea and pan-cooked eggs with bread). Hot showers and phone charging points at the campsite and in the shelters. Movistar has good 4G coverage; other carriers have signal, but it is unstable. Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out is by 12 noon. The Maritime Module has a private bathroom.
Two nights for both the Maritime Module and camping. The exception is activity days: within an activity’s dates you can book a single night, even if the activity lasts longer. If the activity has reserved the lodging for its participants, you need the code its organizers give you. Breakfast is included.
There are two ways. Standard contribution: we confirm on WhatsApp and you pay on arrival; if you can’t come, you cancel for free. Advance contribution: you pay 100% within 24 hours (bank transfer, or PayPal if you don’t have a Chilean bank account), with 10% off the module, camping at $10,000 and breakfast included. In January and February, the module is advance contribution only and camping has limited standard-contribution spots (up to 3 nights, Sunday to Thursday nights). Before booking, please read our guidelines.
With a standard contribution, you cancel for free and book again. With an advance contribution there are no refunds, but you can change the date once, up to 7 days before, keeping the same conditions. After that, what you paid becomes a credit valid for 2 years, transferable; if the new stay costs more, you pay the difference.
It is an advance contribution without dates: same price, breakfast included and priority to choose January and February dates. It is only sold during the Summer 2027 campaign, until December 26 or until the 100 tickets run out. You use it within one year and can give it as a gift. See the full terms.
Yes! The campsite has basic covered spaces where you can use your camping stove. Depending on the season or scheduled activities, an equipped communal kitchen will be available. We will always provide flasks of hot water and drinking water to keep you hydrated.
No. TORMENTA is a vegetarian project, so dining areas, kitchens, refrigerators and other shared facilities follow this approach. What you do in private-use spaces is up to you. We respect all forms of life and ask you to respect the principles of our space.
Whales are frequently seen at Espacio Tormenta. Humpbacks and orcas are the most common, but sightings cannot be guaranteed. We often notice them because we first hear their blow (their breathing) as they pass close to shore. This is why we ask visitors to avoid loud, piercing noises during the day. Some guests have stayed for two weeks without a sighting, while others have visited for just a day and seen them. A local WhatsApp group shares alerts when whales appear. An albino whale was once spotted from Tormenta, the kind of cetacean that has inspired myths, legends and novels. Did you know that Moby-Dick was inspired by “Mocha Dick,” a male albino sperm whale whose strength and size helped him survive numerous whaling attacks near Mocha Island before he was finally killed in the early 19th century? In the summer of 2025, Espacio Tormenta was one of the few places along the Pacific coast where an albino cetacean was spotted.
Yes. TORMENTA has an activity room, an amphitheater and audiovisual equipment if needed. Do you lead workshops or have an idea in mind? Contact us at espaciotormenta@gmail.com.
